Frith - View of The Princess on a train at Duffws Station with Palmerston behind, taken circa 1871. This photograph provides one of the best records of the Victorian footplate clothing and staff uniforms. The heavy set man on the balcony of sentry box van No. 1, presumably the guard, is wearing a satchel strap adorned or embroidered with FRCo. The passenger set includes at least five of the Small Birmingham 4-wheelers, and provides a rare view of one of the 1st class carriages before they were rebuilt into semi-opens.
