Title
Croesor Junction looking North.
Croesor Junction looking North, 1925. Mk3 quarrymen's carriage grounded on the left in use as a shelter/token room. The crossovers are at the northern end of the loop installed in 1924. When this was installed, the long Portmadoc (New) to Beddgelert section was split at Croesor Junction. As it was unattended the staff and tickets were kept in a 'cabin' unlocked by a key on the staff. Presumably this 'cabin' was the mk3 quarrymen's carriage body seen here. In the distance the WHR mainline curves away to left, whilst the Croesor Tramway continues towards the Parc Inclines, with waggons awaiting collection.

The original Croesor line was the track on the left, which ran straight on to where the waggons are in the distance. When the WHR was built the junction points were installed, a LH turnout where the line can be seen to turn left in the distance. In 1924 the loop line on the right was put in, but HM Railway Inspector did not approve the layout, so the junction points were moved to come off the end of the loop and the Croesor line slewed to join. Note that the photographer is stood approximately where the restored WHR curve begins, the original sharp radius curve seen here having been abandoned.
