Title
Merddin Emrys entering Penrhyn Station.
Merddin Emrys entering Penrhyn Station circa 1978 with ex-WHR Ashbury summer carriage No. 26, Brown Marshalls bogie No. 16, and one of the new Tin Cars. The fireman is Phil Girdlestone.

The locomotive shows off many distinctive features: short tanks, Stanier hooter mounted vertically, open cab sides, brass bob weights and dome covers, inverted U smokeboxes, and both smokebox doors hinged from the left. Note the steam-raising airline connection on the top smokebox and the breathers for the oil/water tanks on the filler lids.

By this time the station loop and head shunt were not in use for timetabled trains, after the commissioning of Rhiw Goch loop.
