Glanydon Tip overlooking the LNWR Tunnel circa 1925 - 1928. The WSCo Viaduct is to the left of the photographer, the tramway connecting directly to the main Spion Kop Incline in the distance. A long string of loaded slate waggons is marshalled at the bottom of this incline ready to be lowered down the WSCo incline to the FR's Dinas Branch. The route of the branch can be seen snaking its way underneath the standard-gauge bridges towards Pant yr Afon hydroelectric power station and the Llechwedd incline just out of picture on the right.

There is no slate stacked on the Oakeley wharf to be shipped away, and the narrow-gauge waggons behind the standard-gauge vehicles all appear to have solid sides, probably awaiting a coal delivery. The standard-gauge Oakeley and Llechwedd sidings contain LMS engineers vehicles, including a 6-wheeled Clayton (ex-Midland Railway) carriage, and a SE&CR (South Eastern and Chatham Railway) pre-grouping waggon. The bolster waggons in the Llechwedd wharf are loaded with what look like steel beams, possibly for bridge repairs.

Note the horse-drawn cart on the main road over the Crimea Pass (today the A470) on the right.
