Title
Merddin Emrys on the WHR line outside Porthmadog Goods Shed.
Merddin Emrys on the WHR line outside Porthmadog Goods Shed besides Harbour Station, taken in 1939 as indicated by the vertical bar lamp bracket visible on the top apron. The driver looks to be Tom Davies. Matchboard Small Birmingham 3rd class No. 4 next to the locomotive.

This scene is worthy of some consideration. The WHR was by now long closed, which precluded any need to run passenger stock across town. Yet that is exactly what appears to be happening here. There are no passengers in the only visible carriage, which perhaps suggests this was a stock movement, or a shunt to pick up goods vehicles from one of the wharf lines. The direction of the driver and the smoke from the chimneys indicates that the train is being propelled away from the station, which further supports this being a shunting move.
