Title
Moelwyn undergoing overhaul at Boston Lodge Works.
Moelwyn undergoing overhaul at Boston Lodge Works, spring 1956. Essentially in Old Company condition, including No. 11 stencilling and wooden toolbox slung underneath the cab. The brake gear is dismantled, and the side rods and front gearbox fly cranks removed. The locomotive was being prepared for the installation of a Gardner 3LW diesel engine (recovered from a Vulcan lorry), and a four-speed Meadows gearbox. Eric Cooper recalled that whilst the original petrol engine had been started, it was not considered fit for further use. It would re-enter service, remaining an 0-4-0 for the next year prior to being rebuilt with a pony truck.
