Title
Simplex Diana being named at Gweithdy Cryddion.
Simplex Diana being named at Gweithdy Cryddion with a skip waggon train during the latter half of 1974. The ceremony marked the official naming of the newly acquired locomotive after Diana Shooter (wife to Adrian Shooter CBE), seen here about to 'christen' the locomotive. It was notable for being the only motive power to travel the old formation (as far as the Dolrhedyn gap) before it was properly rehabilitated, which involved significant civil engineering to achieve. The man in the hat on the right is PW Chief Fred Howes.

Situated above Footbridge 2, all of the houses visible in the background to the right of the railway were subsequently demolished and virtually no trace of them existed by the 21st century. This was a stark consequence of the severe depopulation that took place in the area around this time. This top section of the railway was lined with houses perched and squeezed either side, and lost much of its charm when most were pulled down. Note the Old Company bullhead track.
