Deviation - Eastern half of Dduallt spiral at Cei Ar Bont in September 1965 during the first year of construction. Spiral Cutting (Site 4) is being dug out in the distance, the spoil from which is being used to create the embankment in the foreground. The first sod had been cut where the embankment meets the cutting on 2 January 1965 by Dr. Michael J.T. Lewis. However the Deviation Stone commemorating the occasion was only erected some time afterwards, and was not present when this photograph was taken.
