Date
10/07/1964
Blaenau Ffestiniog ex-LNWR Transhipment Yard, 10 July 1964. This photograph was taken from the access road to the yard. This scene would soon vanish, as the narrow-gauge lines from Duffws would be lifted in order for the Conwy Valley to be connected onto Trawsfynedd. The slate waggons largely comprise LNWR type vehicles. The stripes on the standard-gauge waggon indicate that it is a 'shocwagon,' used to carry more delicate cargoes (eg. slates.) The body could slide on the underframe under the control of longitudinal springs. Ruston Hornsby Diesel standing middle-left. Note the Esso petrol tankers at the fuel depot in the distance. Below the Oakeley tip lies Glan y Pwll, including the prominent Capel Rhiw.
