Title
Baldwin 590 at Beddgelert Station.
Baldwin 590 at Beddgelert Station circa 1937. The driver on the footplate is William R. Williams. He appears to be operating the injector, with the fireman on the other side of the locomotive, likely in the process of taking water from the tank. This indicates that the locomotive was in steam, which suggests that this photograph was in fact taken in summer 1936 towards the end of passenger services on the WHR. In the distance one of the ex-WD PW trolleys is being pushed up beyond the points. There is photographic evidence of these vehicles being hitched onto the back of passengers trains to get them up the hill. The goods shed is on the right, with the oil and lamp store on the left. The mountains in the distance are collectively known as the Nantlle Ridge.
