Baldwin 590 outside Dinas Engine Shed circa September 1923. Newly delivered to the railway, and fitted with vacuum brakes (the bag on the front running plate might contain tools). Compared to the other locomotives it was virtually brand new and had handily received an overhaul courtesy of Bagnall prior to purchase. Note the small patch on the horizontal curve on the top of the pannier tank, quite possibly repaired bullet or shrapnel damage from its time spent at the front. The cab back-sheet is still open to the elements, the the coupling slot is point upward.
Dinas carriage shed in the background, along with a small mineral waggon. The curved roof of a bogie carriage is visible through the open door on the right hand side. The running line is immediately behind the loco curving towards Dinas Cutting. The land to the right is rising towards the main road A487.
