Palmerston at Porthmadog New Station. The listed day (29/7/24) cannot be correct. The condition of the locomotive (note the damaged tender yet to be patched) and the presence of FR Brown Marshalls Van No. 4 (having been rebuilt in 1928/9 with passenger compartments) dates the scene to summer 1929. The direction of the locomotive and van indicate that the train has come from Porthmadog. It is likely that the passengers are being directed across the Cambrian Crossing to connect with a WHR train for onwards travel to Beddgelert. Tom Davies is engrossed in his paperwork, possibly his working timetable.
