Old Tunnel North looking towards Tanygrisiau, 13 July 1956. The deep cutting leading from Tunnel North begins centre bottom of the image and continues on a diagonal course, passing to the right of the clump of trees. The trees conceal Tunnel Cottages and the wall running left to right in front of them encloses their 'ground'. In front of this wall is the siding that leads to the Brookes Granite quarry and some powder magazines; a shunting loop began just by the right hand end of the wall.

On the left of the railway, beyond Tunnel Cottages, is the gate (dark patch) and trackbed just visible leading to the foot of the incline to the Moelwyn Zinc mine.

The railway follows a gentle arc up the valley. The tiny pale rectangle in the distance is one of the classic FR accommodation overbridge near Buarth Melyn. The dark diagonal running up to the left of the footbridge is a boundary wall. In the far distance is Wrysgan Incline, still complete at this time.
