Title
Dinas Village and Holland's Cesail Incline.
Dinas Village and Holland's Cesail Incline circa 1876-1879. This incline was one of the earliest connections to the railway, dating from 1839. Note the impressive zig-zag quarrymen's road and the huge wall face near the drumhouse. It was around this time that both leaseholds for Hollands (Gloddfa'r Gesail - upper quarry) and Rhiwbryfdir (Gloddfa Ganol - middle quarry) ran out. The freehold landowner, W.E. Oakeley, refused to renew. The entire settlement seen here, including the incline, were subsequently buried before the end of the century by the amalgamated Oakeley Quarries' waste tips after the lower quarry (formerly Lord Palmerston's WSCo) was finally folded into the middle and upper workings.
