Title
Russell at Porthmadog New (North).
Russell and passenger train at Porthmadog New (North). The train includes Ashbury corridor stock and a Pickering brake. Narrow-gauge waggons at Beddgelert Siding in the background. No. 12 stencilled on the front buffer beam, and wooden toolbox on front apron.

The locomotive was out of service between 1929 and 1931 for a series of repairs. It was during this period that the large patch on the left-hand side tank and a much smaller patch on the right-hand tank were fitted. Therefore, this photo was taken after the start of the 1931 season (20 July). The photo was taken before any FR Lease re-painting was carried out so therefore it was taken before the close of the 1933 season (8 September). During the three years 1931 to 1933 the WHR ran only one train each day, timetabled to arrive at Portmadoc New at 14:37 - the Cambrian Crossing was not used by passenger trains at this time so passengers had to walk to and from Portmadoc.
