Porthmadog Harbour & Britannia Bridge.

Porthmadog Harbour & Britannia Bridge circa 1924. The wharves are clear of slates and the relative lack of sailing ships plus the presence of pleasure boats and yachts places this scene firmly after the First World War. The schooner closest to Harbour Station is sizeable. Perhaps most telling is the bright appearance of Britannia Bridge, and the straight lintels of the five spans (rather than the curved arches being visible) indicating that it has only recently been widened for the WHR. This scene provides an excellent view of the track layout on the wharves.

The England locomotive at the station throat (probably Prince fitted with a steel framed tender) has been turned, almost certainly for working WHR trains uphill which is widely recorded in photographs from the period. Several items of rolling stock can be identified in the station. Two Bowsider carriages are parked at the end of the platform road, unusually not formed into a larger train set. As well as the two wooden coal waggons, the other item of non-passenger stock is a covered goods van, possibly No. 1 (mk3 quarrymen's conversion with sliding doors). On 4-Road is a fully made up passenger train. It includes 'porthole' semi-open Small Birminghams Nos 12 & 13, another 4-wheeler (3rd class vehicle with matchboard bodywork), two bogie carriages (one of which is No. 15 or 16), and one of the large Brown Marshall bogie vans (No. 4 or 5). Behind this set, and presumably being kept as spare carriages, are two of the new Hudson Toastracks.
